essence of cape town – about
I’m Nielfa Hanifa, a rather quirky, comical, sarcastic, crude, philosophical, almost-hippie-like, thoughtful, playful and spontaneous little girl.
This started out as a space for personal babbling. It’s become a place to make friends, for my random outbursts of opinions and making many types of lists. I’ve recently squeezed in my love of all things fashionable and trendy.
I’ve been married since 2005 to Razeen, he tweets here.
I work as a book designer and typesetter while drinking copious amounts of tea in a mug. You’ll often hear me talking about dictionaries. I’m a bit of a typography nut and can sometimes name fonts on random things like restaurant menus. I completed school a little late; it’s not because I’m dense, I was home-schooled. I prowl the internet for all things pretty and many a shipping bargain; I like Twitter and Facebook too. I used to write poetry and have some published; now I just scribble one liners. I enjoy long walks and running for short distances; I also like being in a pool or the water at Fish Hoek. My husband and I make a mean team when playing board games, but we always end up fighting when on opposing crews. Reading is my sanctuary and I’m always eager to learn something new; that’s why I have loads of books. Even though I sometimes loudly spot spelling and grammar mistakes, I sadly make them too. I like scouting fashion trends and I think I’ve managed my own chic and personal style; while still maintaining hijab. On that note, I have more clothes and shoes than cupboard space. I have an interior designer buried deep down inside of me and still in search of the right house to make a home. I’ve always found books, magazines and the publishing industry in general very intriguing. I hoard notebooks and am set on starting a tea pot collection. I want to learn the art of calligraphy and to paint more often. I like the colour blue. Improving my character and refining my spirit are my greatest goals in life.
Essence of Cape Town is me and my rudimentary view of the world from the beautiful city I call home.
